Save and retrieve filters

Is there a way to save and retrieve filters? I would like to save common filters and then recall them with a few clicks, rather than redoing them in the filter screen. I know I can save a link with the filter and look at the SQL, but I was wondering if there was a way to do this without editing the php codes.
