Bar Codes
Re: Bar Codes
I I know there are keyboard drivers for different smartphone OSs which offer that functionality. I've tested this once but never used it in production.
If such a keyboard is installed and activated, every (!) input field can be a target for a barcode scan. When entering an input, the keyboard offers a special button for taking a photo and immediately and automatically recognizing the barcode - if any. The result will be pasted into the input field as if you were typing it.

Jan

Re: Bar Codes
Thank you so much for the reply. I will investigate that angle now!
Re: Bar Codes
That was an excellent answer!! It would be an awesome integration for AppGini.
Re: Bar Codes
I'm afraid AppGini generated web apps cannot force users to download and install certain OS specific drivers or software for their smart devices.
But maybe you can share your experiences here and name your OS and installed keyboard driver, perhaps post some pics, to help others finding suitable software for their device.

Re: Bar Codes
I was thinking more along the lines of having AppGini develop an app for smartphones that would invoke the barcode scanner when a user enters a certain field on a form. I'd buy it from them.
I downloaded a trial app for my Android phone called "Barcode/NFC Scanner Keyboard". Once installed, a tiny icon is available that allows you to activate the Scanner Keyboard. When the keyboard is active, any time you enter any data entry field (so far anywhere), with one click on a button your camere acts as a barcode scanner and enters the barcode value as text into the field. It serves the purpose and is simple to use and get used to.
The demo version is free and the paid upgrade version is $4.99 US dollars. It's available at the Google Playstore for Android phones. I'm not sure about anything Apple.
