Tab focus on dropdown menus/child pages

Has anyone found a way to stop the tab focus from skipping dropdown combo boxes? When tabbing through these are ignored and the tab focus only goes from open text field to open text field. This occures in all browsers, even when they are set to stop at all form elements ie. Firefox set to 7. From research, I have found this is due to that box being controlled by a child page? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
