I really like the new feature of providing an "Add New..." button next to the dropdown list on detail pages that came in 5.4

It would be great if this was available from the Modal popup detail windows too, instead of just from the main level window.

Hmm .. that would open a modal inside a modal ... and from there, if you have another add new button, it would open a third modal inside the second one and so on. That might be confusing to users.

I understand what you are saying about the confusion but is there a way to add it to just a few records? I could really use this feature!

Well.... we might consider adding some option to overwrite this.
