Re: Sending newsletters?

Hi Ahamad and thanks for your reply. My life has changed so much in the past couple of years and playing with PHP is something I don't have any available time for. However, I did promise to revisit the club's membership register I designed with AppGini a couple of years ago to see if I could include...

Sending newsletters?

Hi All, I've been away for a very long time. After being diagnosed with heart disease, I went through a quadruple bypass and still have issues which have changed my life somewhat. I still have a very old version of AppGini mainly because I've had no need to upgrade. I enjoyed playing with the progra...

Re: ISSUE w/CSV IMPORT

Thanks Kerem. I finished the move today and now I have to tidy up the new place. it was exhausting because I also had to dispose of a very old 13m boat. As you know, even the Moderators haven't heard from Ahmad and it is a worry. His suggested date for releasing a new version passed by long ago. John

Re: ISSUE w/CSV IMPORT

I've been moving house and the forum has gone on the backburner for a while. Have a look at this thread: http://forums.appgini.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=145 Ahmad has said there could be a problem with the Appini Code for CSV imports. People are coming up with a variety of problems and in my cas...

Re: Best tool to build database from spreadsheet?

Hi Stephen, because I'm a moderator on this forum I really can't undersell AppGini. However, there are a couple of freebie programs out there, but they're very, very difficult to use, So much so, I've completely dumped them and stuck with AppGini. When looking for anything free on the Internet, alwa...

Re: Help and Tutorials in Printable PDF Format

Welcome to the forum tableguy. I created the manuals for my personal use, but was happy to share them, I could convert them with Calibre, but I'm so busy moving and setting up a new house to even think about it right now. As you say, a wiki is a good idea but time consuming. Sadly AppGini has no off...

Re: Display detail view only?

Thanks for the reply and thanks for sharing your solution. it's amazing how many people don't. Forums are all about helping each other and that's just what you've done. Just one quick question to tie it altogether though. Can you supply the full line(s) of code you entered in each of the files in st...

Re: Display detail view only?

Welcome to the forum. It's gone a bit quiet over the Easter break but maybe your post will wake a few people up :-) Have you tried using "Don't show in Detail View" or Don't show in Table View"? I have no idea how the screen will display because I'm moving house and answering from my Netbook that do...

Re: Launch etail View in new window

Hi Tony, I'm not super savvy with AppGini, but from what I can see, the detail view is as big as it needs to be. In other words, it will display the entire form and all the fields in it. I play with xxx_templateDV.html in the generated code file. By putting fields two or more across and putting the ...

Re: Launch etail View in new window

Hi Tony and welcome to the forum. Unless I've read your question incorrectly, the detail view will always be centered on the screen. You can have it so it appears over the table (same page) or on a separate page. Both have their advantages. To get the detail view to open on the same page, open AppGi...

Re: Changing Column Width

Hi Greg, As I said earlier I did all my changes in xxx_templateTV.html and didn't strike any problems. What I did do was break my long membership form into separate tables to make things easier to handle. Here's the code for my Membership interests which is three columns wide. The first column simpl...

Re: Newbie Customization

Hi Greg, The easiest way to overcome AppGini from overwriting files is to make them read only. On your Windows test box, just right click the file and in Properties click read only. That should be more secure than AppGini''s compiler because we often forget and click overwrite all. When you're playi...

Re: Newbie Customization

Hi Greg, I've already asked Ahmad to consider a WYSIWYG version of AppGini but I'm not too sure he's planning to do it in the near or distant future. One thing I want to do is put fields beside each other: Firstname, Lastname. I'm able to do this myself using a WYSIWYG HTML editor. In my case, Dream...

Re: PHP Error: Call to undefined function session_id()

Thanks for sharing the problem and the fix. it's essential that people tell us how they fix problems they ask about even if it might be a teeny bit embarrassing. We can all make mistakes and others may venture by with a similar problem. Your fix may be theirs also.

Re: PHP Error: Call to undefined function session_id()

I'd never heard of cygwin so I looked it up. I'm still confused, but it sounds like it emulates Linux on a windows box. I don't think AppGini is designed to run under Linux, so the problem could be there. I'm only guessing, but I think it would be best to instal WAMP or XAMP under Windows and keep c...

Re: Whitespace in dropdownlist

Have you checked the offending table with phpMyAdmin? It's quite possible there are several blank records mixed up with filled ones. These things are known to happen when you're developing a site.

Hi almaqdad , This is a very new forum and our "active" membership isn't as big as our membership list suggests. Some are spammers waiting for their chance and others are members who read posts but never post anything themselves even if they know the answer. I've asked several questions here and on ...

Re: Image Thumbnails, How To?

Your image sizes aren't a problem, nor is the 500kb limit unless you're expecting thousands of images to be posted. The question is, have you got the thumbnails to work? If NO, do they appear okay in the detail view? I think point one in Schmuty's suggestions may be covered, otherwise you wouldn't s...

Re: Cannot update database

Adding a table shouldn't pose any problems. It's just a MYSQL command "Create table if not exists" which AppGini will execute. Ditto adding a field. AppGini should add the field okay, but as the table exists you will probably need to delete setup.php. As I said, I haven't delved into the why's and w...

Re: Image Thumbnails, How To?

What kind of images are you uploading? Judging by the field name and Image size you have allowed, are you trying to upload a slideshow? Images have to be JpPG, GIF or PNG. An 800 x 600 jpg compressed to 80% with a DPI of 96 (the most you need) should come in at around 150kb max.

Re: Cannot update database

Kai, it will be money well spent. I think Ahamad may begin adding many new features now that he has a forum where he can communicate with his users. I don't look into the workings of AppGini, but I think if you do a "Full" compile, over an older one, AppGini doesn't update setup.php. You have to phy...

Re: Cannot update database

G'day Kai. There's a pesky little file in your script root called setup.php. Delete it and recompile. That should update the scripts. Please try that first. I'm not sure how brilliant the MYSQL update command is. Adding a new table is okay, but adding a field to an existing table could be a bit hit ...

Re: Hooks help

bescott53, I'm with you. Although Ahamad has put several examples on the web site, I think they may need a revisit if Appgini is to become a programming buzzword. I've only done a little PHP using very basic code and I'm not alone there. Despite that, I've written some pretty powerful scripts in my ...
